Knowledge and Experience

Will fell in love with Western North Carolina in 2001 when he began working as a whitewater guide. While guiding, he obtained his teaching degree from UNC-A and began teaching Science to middle and high school students.
During the summers and winters as guide and teacher, Will worked many construction trades including framing houses, roofing, deck construction, house renovation and performing general repairs as a handyman. As a teacher, Will developed effective communication skills along with attention to detail. After fifteen years in the classroom, Will decided to use these skills in a new way, educating home buyers and sellers about homes. Needless to say, Will's diverse experience allows him to provide you an overall view of the health of your home and explain his findings in a way that is easy to understand.

What is the significance of your name?

A "highside" is a action that rafters perform when they find themselves in a potentially dangerous situations on the river. During a highside, the rafters shift their weight to the highest side of the raft as the other side is forced below the water. This movement helps the rafters to avoid hazardous situations such as getting stuck on a rock, swimming out of the boat or prevent the boat from flipping over. Essentially, it is a maneuver to protect rafts and passengers from potentially harmful and dangerous circumstances. Like a highside in rafting, a home inspection helps potential buyers and sellers recognize any defects that need of repair, and have them fixed either before closing on the home or putting it on the market. Home inspections help expedite home closing because the buyer can be confident in their purchase. Likewise if sellers choose a pre-listing inspection, defects can be fixed before the home is place on the market helping homes sell faster.
